One of the largest firms in Oklahoma with approximately 100 attorneys divided among three offices across two states, GableGotwals has made its mark on the states’ legal markets in more ways than one. The firm has grown above and beyond its humble beginnings in 1944, now touting clients that range from Fortune 500 corporations to entrepreneurs to privately owned companies to well-known foundations to individuals. Although GableGotwals’ primary practice is in litigation and business transactions, the firm’s attorneys focus on a total of 33 practice areas.
Handling Billions in Transactions
GableGotwals isn’t intimidated by huge transactions, especially those that creep into the billions. Recently, the firm represented WPX Energy, Inc. in connection with the amendment and restatement of its $1.5 billion senior revolving credit facility, including letter of credit and swingline sub facilities and an accordion feature allowing for an increase of an additional $300 million. GableGotwals also represented a client in a crude oil pipeline transaction that involved related assets owned by an entity in which the client had a 50 percent interest. The client bought from that entity a crude oil pipeline system in the Houston Gulf Coast area and also consented to the transfer of the other 50 percent interest in that entity to another owner in a transaction valued at over $1 billion.
Not Just a Midwest Firm
The firm has racked up quite the laundry list of accolades, being recognized by Benchmark Litigation, Chambers, and Oklahoma Super Lawyers and being named a Go-To Firm for the Top 500 Companies by Corporate Counsel, included in the “Best Law Firms” list by U.S. News & World Report and “Best Lawyers” in 69 areas. But it isn’t just journals and guides that rank the firm among the top; in 2019, more than half of the firm’s attorneys – 64 to be exact –were named in the peer-reviewed publication “Best Lawyers.”

On March 25, 2019, a jury in Anadarko, Oklahoma, issued a unanimous verdict in favor of GableGotwals’ client, Range Resources Corporation, rejecting claims by 11 plaintiffs that Range had underpaid their royalties. Range maintained it had properly paid royalties on the proceeds received by it from selling the gas production at or near the wells to various third-party purchasers under percentage-of-proceeds or percentage-of-index contracts and that the gas was a marketable product when so sold.
Following a two-week trial, the court submitted the case to the jury on plaintiffs’ claims of breach of lease, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty. The jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor Range and against all plaintiffs on all claims.
The Tulsa Area United Way (TAUW) Celebrated the 2019 Live United Awards at the Cox Business Center where GableGotwals was recognized in several categories for its contributions to the TAUW.
