About Lane Powell

Lane Powell PC is a pacific rim powerhouse, with nearly 200 attorneys across offices in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. The firm’s areas of legal expertise include corporate finance, intellectual property, regulation and taxation, real estate, labor relations, and commercial litigation.

Changes over a Century

Lane Powell’s story begins in 1875, when an attorney named William D. Fenton began practicing law at the Portland firm McCain and Fenton. Separately, in 1889, the firm’s Seattle presence was rooted when an attorney by the name of William A. Peters joined the firm Strudwick, Peter & Collins. These two firms ran parallel—each undergoing a laundry list of name changes—until 1990 when they merged. It wasn’t until 2005 that the firm finally adopted the Lane Powell name.

Discovery in the Pacific Northwest

Despite its physical concentration in the Pacific Northwest, Lane Powell is no stranger to national, big-name clients. The firm has represented household-name companies like Nordstrom, Starbucks, Bank of America, Safeway, Wells Fargo, Cigna, Aetna, and Chevron. On the corporate side, Lane Powell’s resume is chock-full of deals worth multi-millions to billions of dollars. The firm has represented public and private companies—from startups to Fortune 500s—throughout all stages of the business life cycle. In addition to its corporate group that handles mergers, acquisitions, and the like, Lane Powell has practice groups that specifically focus on startup and emerging companies and transitioning businesses.

On the litigation side, the firm covers all stages of a dispute related to nearly any area of law. However, the firm’s separate e-Discovery division—Lumos Discovery—has especially set the firm apart as a leader during the discovery phase. Lumos Discovery handles all facets of data collection and review, from document collection to production. Lumos Discovery also helps clients navigate tangential discovery issues by offering services like data mapping and systems reviews. Lane Powell and Lumos offer these comprehensive services thanks to a robust team of attorneys, certified e-Discovery specialists, litigation support specialists, and paralegals.

At the Forefront of the Cannabis Industry

Not all that surprising for a firm in the Northwest, Lane Powell has a dedicated cannabis practice comprised of attorneys who help clients navigate the ever-changing legal landscape of this industry. The cannabis group advises clients on business strategies, trademark rights, land use, and changing regulations. The firm also runs a cannabis blog, The Pipeline, which discusses every angle of the burgeoning industry and the legal issues surrounding it.
