Summer Experience

We offer an innovative work experience for second-year law students and select first-year students through our diversity fellowship program across our US offices in major markets. Our summer experience combines challenging, hands-on work with Morgan Lewis clients with targeted professional development training and opportunities to build relationships at the firm.

Our Summer Associate Program starts with an in-person kickoff event where firm leaders and all summer associates come together for a multiday orientation and training program. We have hosted our Summer Program Kickoff in many places, from the beaches of Santa Monica, to downtown Brooklyn, to the windy city of Chicago. Wherever we gather, the goal remains the same: to introduce our summer associates to our firm, our unique culture, and our enthusiasm for working together.

Training at All Levels

From our newest lawyers to our senior associates, Morgan Lewis supports “wraparound” professional development. The firm offers a series of multiday academies in addition to the Morgan Lewis Institute, with programs tailored to each stage of an associate’s career. These programs give associates a valuable, in-person opportunity to learn from Morgan Lewis senior leadership, partners, and clients on a variety of topics such as business development and leadership skills.

Balance and Well-Being

Remote Working

Morgan Lewis launched its Remote Working Program in 2017 to put into place flexible work options for US and UK associates. This program gives enrolled associates the ability to work from home up to two days per week. The firm subsidizes the cost of a full home office setup so that they can do so comfortably.

Return to Work

Acknowledging there is an adjustment period before and following a leave of absence, associates who take a leave of at least eight consecutive weeks are provided a three-week ramp-down period and ramp-up period prior to and following such leave. This provides needed relief from client billable hour expectations and the challenges of staying fully engaged prior to and following an extended leave.

ML Well

As one of the first firms to sign the ABA Well-Being Pledge, it is understood that we make the well-being of our employees a priority. In 2018 we introduced ML Well, a unique, holistic approach to promoting intellectual, physical, emotional, and occupational well-being coupled with an underlying emphasis on engagement and community.

Because there is no one-size-fits-all approach to well-being, ML Well aims to enable our lawyers and professional staff to find what uniquely works best for them as individuals. Consistent with this sentiment, the firm has a chief engagement officer and its own director of well-being to maintain this culture at our firm.
