About Squire Patton Boggs

Squire Patton Boggs is a truly global law firm, spanning 45 offices across 20 countries on five continents. A multi-disciplinary team of more than 1,500 lawyers support a diverse mix of clients, ranging from Fortune 100 and FTSE 100 corporations to emerging companies and from individuals to local and national governments.

A Tale of Mergers

In the late 1800s, Squire Sanders was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, while AV Hammond opened shop in Bradford, England. Organic growth on both sides of the Atlantic firmly established these firms as forces to be reckoned with over the years. In 2011, the two firms joined, creating a firm with a solid presence in the U.K. and Western Europe. Three short years later, DC-lobbying powerhouse Patton Boggs came on board, creating Squire Patton Boggs. Since then, the firm has been a fixture on Law360’s annual ranking of firms with the largest international presence and cross-border experience.

Political Experience? Check. Innovative Practices? Check.

With a strong global reach, Squire Patton Boggs advises clients in a number of areas, including antitrust, business immigration, corporate matters, energy, environmental law, financial services, insurance, IP, international trade, labor and employment, litigation, public policy, real estate, restructuring, tax, and white collar, among others.

Squire Patton Boggs’ preeminent Public Policy Practice includes a deep roster of experienced professionals with unrivalled bipartisan credentials, including former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH), US Congressmen Joseph Crowley (D-NY) and Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA); Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater (D-AR); Democratic Staff Director of the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Margaret Daum; Appropriations Committee Veteran David LesStrang; Majority Staff Director of the House Ways and Means Committee David Stewart; and Frank Wisner, US Ambassador to Zambia, Egypt, the Philippines and India. In addition to the firm’s globally recognized US Public Policy Practice, it now has leading practices in the European Union, the UK, Asia and Australia.

Another focus at the firm is in emerging areas of the law, including sustainable business (Environmental, Social and Governance or ESG); global digital markets regulation; artificial intelligence (AI); autonomous driving; FinTech; and digital currency/blockchain technology.

Jot That Down

Squire Patton Boggs doesn’t merely walk the lawyer walk—it writes about it too. The firm pens 23 different blogs, ranging in topic from IP and global supply chain to DC legal happenings and legal issues in Latin American to anticorruption and sports law. The blogs are updated frequently, with multiple posts often appearing on the firm’s site in one day.

COVID-19 Update

Given the unprecedented challenges to the global economy and the legal profession as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Squire Patton Boggs (SPB), like so many other law firms, modified its plans for the 2020 Summer and Fall Associate Programs. We took this opportunity to deliver a newly designed Virtual Information Series as well as Virtual Networking Sessions to allow for early integration and connection with our incoming Summer and Fall Associates. SPB is actively recruiting for our 2021 Summer Program. We are excited to meet law students and engage on 1:1 and small group discussions to introduce our firm and culture through a series of virtual events.  We will also be participating in a number of programs hosted by law schools to introduce employers or offer substantive programming helpful as ones transition from law school to law practice.
