Advertising and Marketing Managers

Employment of advertising and promotions managers is expected to grow as fast as the average and employment of marketing managers is expected to grow faster than the average through 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. As the influence of marketing and advertising in traditional print media begins to decline, many advertising and marketing firms are investing more heavily in digital media. Advertising in social media venues such as Facebook has started a new kind of dialogue with consumers, one that has proven to be lucrative for advertisers willing to focus time and resources in less traditional media channels. This shift can be a hard sell for manufacturers and retailers who want to retain a traditional advertising focus, but it appears to be an irreversible trend. For this reason, the skills of forward-thinking, technology-savvy advertising and marketing managers will be highly sought after, even though actual employment numbers for these professions has declined a bit in recent years, due to the recent recession. The compensation and prestige of these positions make them highly popular, and competition to fill openings will be intense. College graduates with experience, a high level of creativity, and strong communication skills should have the best job opportunities.
