Earnings for bailiffs are often subject to the budget amounts in the sheriff 's department where the bailiff works. Bailiffs working for large, well-funded departments will have higher earnings than those at small departments with limited budgets. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that bailiffs had a median yearly income of $38,150 in May 2014. Ten percent of bailiffs earned less than $20,630 annually, and 10 percent earned more than $70,970. Bailiffs employed in local government had mean annual earnings of $36,440, and those employed in state government earned about $61,670 per year.
