Median annual earnings for civil engineering technicians were $52,580 in May 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. That same year, the highest paid 10 percent of civil engineering technicians earned more than $79,600, while the lowest paid 10 percent earned less than $33,290. Technicians working for local government agencies had mean annual earnings of $61,960 in 2018. Naturally, higher paying jobs go to those with advanced education and experience. The incomes of many civil engineering technicians who operate their own construction, surveying, or equipment businesses are excellent. Some of these companies can earn millions of dollars each year.
