While beginning fund-raisers do not earn much, their salaries will increase as they gain experience or lead successful revenue efforts. In the 2019 Compensation and Benefits Study, conducted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, members of the association reported an average salary of $83,826 in 2018. The bottom 25 percent earned $53,889 or less, and the top 25 percent of fundraisers earned more than $98,025. It also reported that members who held the certified fund-raising executive designation earned average salaries that were between 3 percent and 14 percent higher than the average for respondents with no certification.
