The U.S. Department of Labor reports that historians earned median annual salaries of $55,800 in May 2015. Salaries ranged from less than $27,920 to $101,880 or more annually. Historians who worked at museums and historical sites earned mean annual salaries of $50,800. Earnings for history professors ranged from less than $36,730 to $125,620 or more. Historians and history teachers often receive benefits such as medical insurance, paid sick and vacation days, and the opportunity to participate in retirement savings plans.
