Land Acquisition Professionals

Outlook

Employment for conservation scientists and foresters is expected to grow about 3 percent (slower than the average for all careers) through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The outlook for land trust work currently is brighter than that for federal land and water conservation jobs. Land trusts are going strong right now, and the entire land and water conservation segment, of which land trust and preserve management is a part, is growing at a steady rate annually. The Land Trust Alliance reports that state, local, and national land trusts had conserved 56 million of open space as of December 31, 2015—an increase of 9 million acres since 2010. This was the latest data available from the organization in early 2020.
