Methane/Landfill Gas Generation System Technicians

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Methane/landfill gas generation system technicians are usually required to have an associate's or bachelor's degree and one to two years of prior work experience. They receive training while on the job, and must have strong technical and computer skills. Those with a high school degree may be able to find entry-level positions but have better chances of finding employment if they have a degree from a vocational school. The work requires a good understanding of methane and landfill gas generation equipment, systems, and procedures. Technicians must be able to follow set procedures and routines, be detail oriented, and be able to identify and solve problems. Much of the work is done outdoors in all types of weather, requiring a degree of physical fitness and stamina. Technicians must also have good hand-eye coordination, strong teamwork skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.
