The U.S. Department of Labor predicts 26 percent employment growth, much faster than the average, for nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, and nurse practitioners through 2028. As certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) and Certified Midwives (CMs) gain a reputation as highly trained and compassionate professionals, they will become an integral part of the health care community. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, in 2014 there were 351,968 births attended by CNMs and CMs. CNMs and CMs attended 85 perent of all midwife-attended births that year. Currently, there are more positions than there are nurse-midwives to fill them.
