Employment for political scientists is expected to decline slightly through 2024, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), due to spending cuts at the federal level. Additionally, competition for jobs will be strong because the field is small. Growing interest in politics, foreign affairs, public policy, health care, and other governmental issues will cause greater demand for political science research. In the next few years, political scientists may find more employment opportunities in nonprofit, political lobbying, and social and civic organizations.
